Puri is a city and a Municipality in the state of Odisha in eastern India. It is the district headquarters of Puri districtand is situated on the Bay of Bengal, 60 kilometres (37 mi) south of the state capital of Bhubaneswar. It is also known as Sri Jagannatha Dhama after the 12th-century Jagannatha Temple located in the city. It is one of the original Char Dham pilgrimage sites for Hindus.

                JAGANNATH TEMPLE



Jagannath Temple is the honour of Puri .The holy sight of Lord Jagannath, accompanied by Subhadra and Balabhadra raises loads of joy among the devotees. The two gods and the goddess of the temple are ornamented in accordance with the occasion and seasonal change. The structural design of the temple can be found to be in pyramid shape. Jagannath Temple in Odisha consists of four entrance gates. They are named as Singhadwara, Ashwadwara, Hathidwara and Vyaghradwara and these names refer to lion, horse, elephant and tiger. Each day, the Lord at the Jagannath Temple is offered 'bhoga' six times and it is dispensed among the worshippers close to Ratnavedi.

·         Attend the public darshan (viewing) is held for an hour each morning. This is known as Sahana Mela and usually happens between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m., after the Abakash Puja (bathing and brushing of the god's teeth).

·      Mangal Aarti, Abakash Puja, Sandhay Aarti, and Chandan Lagi times are 5 a.m., 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. Arrive 30 minutes beforehand to buy tickets.

        BRAHMESWARA TEMPLE



Brahmeswara Temple stands apart when it comes to the finesse it holds. The Lingaya architectural style is followed where different aspects were also introduced.Some other things that make a visit to Brahmeswara Temple more memorable are the four smaller temples it is surrounded by; the architectural style which is used on its wooden structure rather than the stone framework it is usually practiced upon. The pyramid shape of the temple, the captivating carvings inside out, finely built banquets and dancehall are some other picturesque parts of the temple.

                 VIMALA TEMPLE


 The Vimala Temple is the mesmerizing temples of Puri city. Talking about the location, it is located in the western corner of the tower of Jagannath and the southwest corner of the well-known Jagannath temple complex. There is a sacred Rohini Kunda pond near this temple. This temple is made up of laterite and sandstones.This well-known temple is dedicated to Vimala goddess. Every year in October month, the most important and sacred Durga Puja gets celebrated in this temple. 


        SUDARSHAN CRAFT MUSEUM


 At a distance of 2 km from Puri Junction, Sudarshan Craft Museum is located at station road in Puri. It is one of the best places to visit in Puri for art lovers.The Sudarshan Craft Museum was started in the year 1977 by Shri Sudarhsan Sahoo. The museum exhibits great collection of artistic works done by Sudarshan Sahoo like carvings in wood, stone and fiber glass, handicraft items and also fine paintings. Within the premises of museum, one can witness a Buddhist temple built in a Japanese style, a library and a workshop.

                RATH YATRA






One of the most-awaited festivals in the Orissa state as well as in India, Jagannath Rath Yatra is an annual event, which is celebrated in the month of June or July. It is dedicated to Lord Jagannath (Lord Krishna), his sister Goddess Subhadra and his elder brother Lord Balabhadra. It is believed that every year Lord Jagannath wishes to visit his birthplace Mathura for a few days. To fulfill this desire of his, this Yatra is conducted each year from Jagannath temple to Gundicha temple.

 It is believed that pulling this rope is like adding to your good Karma, and doing penance for your bad deeds. 45.6 feet in height, Lord Jagannath’s Chariot is called Nandighosa and has 18 wheels. The chariot of Lord Balaram’s is 45 feet in height, comes with 16 wheels and called Taladhvaja.


        CHILIKA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY


Home to thousands of residents and migratory birds, the Chilika Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most popular sanctuaries in Odisha. Armed with its repertoire of birds, the region attracts a lot of tourists throughout the year. Another aspect that sets apart Chilika Wildlife Sanctuary is the dolphins and aquatic crustaceans such as lobsters, prawns and large crabs. Spot a dolphin in the blue waters or a hundred species of fish that the Chilika Lake is home to.

       NANDANKANAN ZOOLOGICAL PARK


Amidst the natural beauty of natural forest adjacent to Chandaka-Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary, Nandankanan lies in the vicinity of Kanjia Lake. The very name of “Nandankanan”, in mythology, delineates the ecstatic but imaginary beauty of the celestial garden.Nandankanan is the only zoo in India with the credit of having Patas monkey (Erythrocebus patas), Eastern Rosella (Platycercus eximus) and Open-billed Stork (Anastomus oscitans).

   DHAULI GIRI


Dhauli Giri Shanti Stupa, also known as Peace Pagoda, is a Buddhist structure built jointly in 1972 by the Japan Buddha Sangh and the Kalinga Nippon Buddha Sangh. Situated on the opposite hill of Dhauli Giri, it was built through the Indo-Japanese collaboration. You can find splendid Edicts of Ashoka embossed on a mass of rock in Dhauli, beside the way to the hill summit. It is believed that Dhauli hill was the battlefield of the Kalinga War.  An old Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Dhavaleshwar, which was reconstructed in 1972, is located beyond the stupa.

      KONARAK TEMPLE


Sun Temple of Konark, built in the middle of 13th century, is a massive conception of artistic magnificence and engineering dexterity. King Narasimhadeva I, the great ruler of the Ganga dynasty had built this temple, with the help of 1200 artisans within a period of 12 years (1243-1255 A.D.). Since the ruler used to worship the Sun, the temple was considered as a chariot for the Sun God. There are three images of the Sun God at three different sides of the temple, positioned in proper direction to catch the rays of the sun at morning, noon and evening. The Konark temple is widely known not only for its architectural greatness but also for the sophistication and abundance of sculptural work.
The Sun Temple, Konark, remains open from sunrise to sunset.

 UDAYAGIRI AND KHANDAGIRI


The hills of Udayagiri and Khandagiri located on the outskirts of Odisha’s capital, Bhubaneswar, are historic remnants of India’s rich past. The hills house a number of caves, most of which have been carved out by Jain monks and artisans from the times of King Kharavela (of the Mahameghavahana dynasty). The Udayagiri and Khandagiri caves are open from sunrise to sunset throughout the year. The peak tourist season, though, is from October to March.
